"The Scream" is the popular name given to this painting created by Norwegian Expressionist artist Edvard Munch in 1893. Munch’s original German title given to this work was "The Scream of Nature." Munch recalled that he had been out for a walk at sunset when suddenly the setting sunlight turned the clouds a blood-red color. And, he said he sensed an "infinite scream passing through nature". The agonized face in this painting has become one of the most iconic images of art, symbolizing emotions of anxiety or fear.
